Did you access our services this year? Contribute financially? Volunteer your time and energy? Stand up for your reproductive rights at a public rally or protest?
Aradia would like to say THANK YOU! January
22nd, Roe v. Wade Day, marked 32 years of
safe, legal abortion in the United States
and Aradia thanks ALL of our supporters for
doing your part to ensure that women in our
community continue to receive the care they
need and deserve, our community remains
informed and our state laws support women's
health!
Roe v. Wade is the Supreme Court decision
based on the right to privacy making
abortion legal.
To celebrate the Roe v. Wade decision,
Aradia co- sponsored a series of fabulous
events around the city including the
Reproductive Rights Rally at Westlake Plaza
where Emily Lyons, an Honorary Board Member,
moved the crowd with her story of survival
after the 1998 bombing of her Alabama
abortion clinic which left her almost blind
and badly injured. However, women younger
than 32 years old have grown up with
abortion as a constitutional right and may
not feel the threat.
It is in the spirit of ever moving forward
that Aradia Women's Health Center remains
committed to ensuring not only that our
legal right to an abortion remains protected
but that we continually work on new and
different ways to connect with women of all
ages & backgrounds, especially younger women
and to provide opportunities and spaces for
their voices to be heard!
While AWHC acknowledges that extended or
continuous use birth control pills may not
be for every woman, our center has been
offering women in our community the option
of continuous use birth control for many
years. It is certainly not new for women
taking birth control pills to plan on
skipping a period by taking only the
"active" or non-placebo pills in their pack.
Counter-Protest the Anti-choice in Seattle: We Need Your Help!
Saturday, January 29 at 11:00am at Westlake
Plaza
Human Life of Washington will be gathering
at Westlake Plaza tomorrow, Saturday,
January 29th to protest women's freedom of
choice calling it a "Silent No More
Awareness Gathering."
NARAL Pro-choice Washington is organizing a
counter- protest! Join us tomorrow to let
them know that Seattle is PRO-CHOICE!
I Had an Abortion: Real Stories. Real Choices.
Thursday, March 10th @ 6pm at Capitol Hill Arts Center
Every woman is unique. Every woman has her own story. What is yours?
ARADIA WOMEN'S HEALTH CENTER, along with community partners The CAIR Project, Home Alive and ROCKRGRL, is screening Jennifer Baumgardner's
I Had an Abortion documentary. This film is part of our community destigmatization campaign, encouraging women and men to share their personal experiences with abortion. We are collecting abortion stories for a book we will distribute at the event, and are still looking for submissions. Anonymous submissions are accepted. The event is 21 and older (there is a cash bar and food available) but the book submission is open to anyone, in any part of the country.
Please contact Liz at
outreach@aradia.org if you are interested in submitting.
Welcome to the 2005 Legislative Session!
You Can Help Our Kids Get the True Scoop!
January 10th marked the start of the
legislative session of the Washington state
legislature. With pro- choice Governor
Christine Gregoire (at least for the
moment!) we are counting on a supportive
session for women's rights!
However there is a bill which puts us on the
offensive and we need your help to make it
successful!
SB 5306, the "Sexuality Education" bill,
requires that if a school district offers
sexual health education it must include not
only abstinence information but medically
accurate information on birth control
focusing on both prevention of pregnancy as
well as of sexually transmitted diseases.
Tuesday, February 15th is
Reproductive Rights and Health Lobby Day!
Join a statewide coalition of organizations,
parents and concerned members to educate
decision-makers to support comprehensive
sexual health education in Washington state!
